How to get rid of scars on scalp?

The scalp can also have scars from surgery, accidents, burns or childbirth. To improve its appearance there is Scalp Micropigmentation (Scalp Micropigmentation), a technique that can conceal marks and scars, thus improving the aesthetics of the scalp.

Scalp scars

Scalp scars can appear for a variety of reasons:

  • Accidents
  • Burns
  • Infections and conditions affecting the hair follicles.

The good news is that there are very effective methods and treatments to repopulate a scar, thus eliminating baldness in the affected area. To do this it is necessary to examine the area and position of the scar, as well as the density and elasticity of the scalp.

Scarring alopecia

The term "scarring alopecia" refers to the scars produced as a result of injuries and hair loss caused by trauma or accidents. According to their type, scarring alopecia can be divided into two groups:

  • Primary Alopecia: Lesions caused by diseases of the scalp to the point of scarring and follicle loss.
  • Secondary alopecia: Caused by trauma and surgery. As a result of this, the resulting scar tissue prevents the growth of new hair.

Is it possible to hide a scar?

Yes, hair micropigmentation treatment or SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) is an option to hair transplantation. Well, it is a very effective professional treatment that can:

  • Thickening the remaining hair
  • Camouflage scars
  • Improve appearance.

Scars on the scalp can have a negative influence on our safety and general well-being. For, even with fewer active nerve endings, they can cause significant physical discomfort.

Scalp MicroPigmentation as a treatment

The SMP treatment is a non-invasive procedure that involves the injection of pigments under the skin of the scalp. These biocompatible pigments improve the appearance of the affected areas with alopecia

Therefore, we are talking about a reconstructive technique recommended in cases of gradual hair loss or intense cases of alopecia. In the same way, it can be used to treat the areas of the neckline, eyebrows and lips with a durability of approximately 5 to 7 years.

Application time

The procedure lasts 3 hours and requires a minimum of 3 sessions. However, severe cases of alopecia require a greater number of sessions.

In a nutshell:

  • The procedure may take a minimum of 3 hours.
  • About 3 appointments are required to reach the desired density.
  • Clients with deep scars may need additional sessions.

What else do you need to know?

  • The treatment is applied without anesthesia
  • It is normal to feel small pinches in the area, however, they are not painful.
  • After the procedure, you may experience redness, swelling, or bruising in the treated area. However, you can resume your daily activities immediately.

Are you a good candidate for hair micropigmentation?

If hair transplantation is not for you, SMP may be what you need to treat scars on the scalp. Depending on the particularity and severity of the case, it is possible to treat gradual or complete baldness, as well as to camouflage abnormal areas.
